Rim Waterfalls#2, Selkirk Mountain Experience, Durand Glacier
Oils, 16x20 inch done on deep canvas.
This is one of those paintings where I had previously done a smaller version of the scene on site, or plein air. We were staying at Durrand Glacier Chalet up at Selkirk Mountain Experience for 4 days, and I was on a mission to paint my gorgeous surroundings. It was late July so the wildflowers were showy. I will sometimes do a larger painting, using these smaller on site paintings as a reference, in my studio where I have control over light, wind, sun, shadows, mosquitoes, and other things that come into play painting in the fresh air. It’s always a challenge to paint on site, but one I embrace. When I do I really have a sense of being immersed.
